Reclaimed Wood Coffee Tables

These coffee tables are made from reclaimed elm and reclaimed oak. The tops are thick and solid, and they keep the knots, splits and color changes that come with older wood.

Most of the elm comes from northern China, and a few pieces, like the Elm Coffee Table and the Elm Senufo Coffee Table, are built from elm over 100 years old. Sizes run from 55 to 71 inches long and 14 to 18 inches high, from the low, carved Senufo shapes to the wide block-legged Soho.

For lighter, more refined shapes, see our Japandi Coffee Tables, or browse every style in Coffee Tables.

FAQ

What size coffee table do I need?

A good starting point is a table about two thirds the length of your sofa. Leave 14 to 18 inches between the table and the sofa so you can reach a drink without stretching, while keeping room for your legs. For an 84 to 96 inch sofa, a 55 to 63 inch table usually feels right. Longer sectionals can take our 71 inch Elm Senufo Coffee Table.

How high should a coffee table be?

Aim for a table about 1 to 2 inches lower than the seat of your sofa. Our tables run from 14 to 18 inches high. The 14 inch Senufo Elm Low Coffee Table suits low, deep sofas and floor cushions, while the 16 to 18 inch tables work with most standard sofas.

Is reclaimed elm or reclaimed oak more durable?

Both are hardwoods and both hold up well to everyday use. Elm has a bold, interlocking grain that resists splitting along its length, and it ages to a soft honey or gray. Oak has a straighter, more even grain and a slightly warmer tone. Either will pick up small marks over time, which blend into the existing character of reclaimed wood.

Will my reclaimed wood coffee table look like the photos?

It will be close but not identical. Each table is made from wood with its own history, so the grain, knots, cracks and color vary from piece to piece. That variation is the point of reclaimed wood, and it means no one else will have exactly the same table.

How do I care for a reclaimed wood coffee table?

Use coasters for hot and cold drinks, wipe spills right away, and dust with a soft, dry cloth. Keep the table out of strong direct sun and away from radiators or heating vents. A coat of furniture wax once or twice a year helps keep the wood from drying out.
