The outside is what draws you in. The doors and frame have been worked by hand until the dark finish breaks up across the grain, so pale elm shows through in streaks and patches. It reads like an old piece that has been used and repainted for decades. Two small iron ring pulls sit at the center seam.
Open the doors and the mood changes. The inside is left in natural elm, and the back of each door is braced with thick crossbars in the same warm wood. Fixed shelves hold folded linens, towels, dishes or baskets, so it works as a linen cupboard in a hallway, a wardrobe in a bedroom or a pantry beside the kitchen. At almost seven feet tall, it gives a room real height without taking much floor space.
Reclaimed timber carries small cracks, open grain and changes in tone across the surface. Every armoire is a little different, and those marks are part of its character.
Care: Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Wipe spills with a slightly damp cloth and dry right away. Avoid harsh cleaners and long hours of direct sun.
